What is PBI (Peacebuilding Institute)?

PBI is an institute, hosted by the NGO Never Again Rwanda (NAR),that offers a bi-annual (twice a year) two-week long peacebuilding course based on Rwanda’s experience of genocide and its reconciliation and reconstruction journey.

What is Never Again Rwanda (NAR)?

NAR is a Rwandan national NGO established in 2002 in the aftermath of a protracted period of conflict that culminated into the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. NAR’s mission is to embrace sustainable peace and social justice. Its areas of Intervention include: Peacebuilding; Governance and Human Rights; Research; Youth Engagement and Strategic partnerships. What modules are covered at the Peacebuilding Institute (PBI)?

The institute exposes participants to the latest developments in the field of Peacebuilding. PBI specifically features the following modules: Genocide and Mass Atrocities; Transitional Justice/Dealing with the Past; Women, Peace and Security and Governance and Development in Post-Conflict societies. NAR has a laudatory peacebuilding and governance programme whose intervention are ascertained and stem from robust research. The Institute is also committed in tailoring the modules and the course to the needs of the participants.

When does the Peacebuilding course take place?

PBI hosts two workshops in a year; an International workshop and a Regional workshop. The regional workshop is open to African university students and professionals and takes place between February and August; while the International program is open to Rwandan and International university students and professionals and happens between June and July.

Are PBI workshops fully-sponsored?

For the International program, few scholarships are available for Rwandan students and professionals and partial scholarships for selected few international students and professionals.

 For the Regional program, full tuition waivers are available to participants from the following countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, DRC, South-Sudan, Somalia, Rwanda and Burundi. How much does it cost to attend a peacebuilding course in Rwanda?

Where is the Peacebuilding Institute (PBI) take place?

The PBI takes place in Kigali, Rwanda where the in-person workshop takes place.
